It’s time for another story behind the art. Because friends, this is fun stuff. Plus, I did a poll on Instagram and the people have voted YES to putting this piece in my shop!

We were blessed to win a night in a hobbit house air b&b called The Hideaway at Creekside Meadows, largely thanks to Shelby of Wildflora Wellness. Since we picked the days after Memorial Day weekend, we got a screaming deal on a second night. We never would have indulged in such a getaway, but it was seriously just what the doctor ordered.

If you don’t know us well, my husband and I both do most of our work right on our farm. All of my endeavors are based there and Nic has a powersports shop on our property. I love everything about this for our family. One of the (totally worthwhile) costs is that we’ll never be able to have a “staycation” again. Ever.

We love our little homey haven. But there is a to-do list there taller than I am. I know I’m hobbit-sized, but that’s still really long.

So it was a huge blessing to step away for a bit. There was a short hiking trail directly on the property. We cold-plunged in the creek across the road. And generally, we just breathed deeper knowing there was nothing we needed to do.

As soon as I found this Airbnb, which sleeps twelve, I imagined hosting a retreat there. After visiting, I feel like its better for intimate groups of friends and family.

There is room for twelve, but many of those are shared beds and spaces. The bedrooms are roomy, but there isn’t a lot of privacy.

I loved the large outdoor dining area by the fire. I spent more time than anyone else there, painting and staring into the flickering firelight, plotting edits to The Endling. Here’s another painting I did of the bark pattern on the ponderosa pine closest to the fire.

My tall friend, Elizabeth taught me sing-song tree facts while I was in California in May, so the whole time I painted this one I kept thinking, “Ponderosa’s are puzzly.”

I can be such a child sometimes, lol.

If you’re longing for Middle Earth and you’d like to get yourself a mug or a sticker or a postcard or…with this hobbitish locale on it, you can visit my redbubble store here.
