There’s a particular kind of light that falls on Freezout Lake in late winter when we await the return of the snow geese. Despite the cloudy skies, it turns everything hopeful in bright pastels, almost neon, especially at sunrise. Even the dormant fields take on a golden hue. In the painting, I wanted to capture a little bit if that light, particularly the gorgeous turquoise of the water.
