Children’s Book Illustrator Reveal!!
It’s announcement day!!! Are you ready to find out who is illustrating my upcoming picture book? Keep reading!
The idea for this book came when Nic and I were discussing how to raise children who can stand up for what it good and true, but also be compassionate and discerning. (It was actually a Josh Garrels song that triggered the conversation and the whole process!) It’s a challenging world in which to be a parent and a challenging world to be a kid in. We want our kids to know that though they may feel small, weak, confused, etc., they have access to everything they need to be brave, wise and strong.
In a word, they can be incredible! And all for the glory of God and the good of His kingdom. I started to illustrate the book on my own, but didn’t feel like I was doing the project justice. So I started searching for someone whose art is inspiring and beautiful and would breathe more life into the illustrations than I could. Mostly I found people who seemed too well-known for me. While I believed in this book with my whole heart, I wasn’t sure any of them would. And I figured it would cost an arm and a leg to hire them!
It turns out I was wrong! I had seen the illustrations of Jena Holliday on Instagram and LOVED her style. When I reached out, I was amazed to find that she could fit my project in this spring - which is perfect timing for the similar adult Bible study I’m putting together for Warrior Hearted Mom this fall! I’m trusting God will take care of the production costs, because I think this is a message he definitely wants hearts (young and old) to understand.
Jena (pronounces Gina) is a full-time artist, writer, entrepreneur and storyteller. She is the creator and owner of Spoonful of Faith illustration and design studio. She loves to help others in their journeys through creativity, storytelling, and illustration and is dedicated to bringing their visions to life. She and her husband live in Minnesota and are grateful parents to their two children.
Long story short - she’s exactly what I needed! She has been so encouraging already. Jena and I have both struggled with auto-immune diseases and found out how important it is to live a life of purpose. She emphasizes doing whatever it is that you do as an act of worship with your whole heart. #doitasworship
I am excited to announce that Jena and I are collaborating on Heroes of Light, available late this year. This book will empower kids to step into the role God has for them, which just so happens to look a lot like being a superhero!
After our zoom call this week, I’m positive there is no better person in the world for this project! How excited are you to see how gorgeous this book is going to be?!
