WIP Children’s Book

My parents used to talk about how crazy the world was getting. Even as a teenager, I didn’t see it. I knew things had to have changed since they were younger, but to me it didn’t seem as bad as they made it out to be. And as a young Christian, I believed what I had heard about being in the world and not of it because it’s ruled by darkness. Now I understand how they felt.

So many things have changed (or should we say become more visible) in the last year. I find myself wagging my head like my parents did. I find myself girding up a little more, spiritually. And I feel a sense of urgency to teach my children better.

I’m not talking about literature and science. We will always be lifelong learners and have our noses in books when we’re not outside. But here are the other things on the scope & sequence for 2021:

Compassion
Caring for those God cares for (widow, orphan & opressed)
Courage
Faith (Because God really does have us, he wins and he makes us more conquerors.)
Purpose and mission
Dependence (yup - on God AND his family)

It’s kind of a tall order I know, but that’s not even all of it. Nic and I were listening to the Josh Garrels song Resistance and we felt the weight of preparing the next generation for the battles ahead of them. And all of a sudden, an idea for a children’s books that I’ve wanted to make for my kiddos made so much sense.

I scribbled and doodled and it soon became clear that this is a project worth my time and money. Empowering the next generation is worth all of it.

So as many of you know, I’ve connected with an illustrator that I know will bring this vision to life. Today I sent the rough draft to my editor and the illustrator will begin in March.

I’ll be giving sneak peeks into the book, sharing news and countdowns to reveal the illustrator, cover and release dates. Be sure to subscribe so you catch them. In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy the the occasional blog post and short story.

With Love,
Elli
